What is a roof steamer, roof ice damn steaming, why do I need it and how much does it cost?
A roof steamer takes regular, cold tap water and heats it to 300 degrees. This steam is forced through a delivery hose and wand where it is focused into a thin, low-pressure column used to cut through ice.
A high-temp pressure washer is identical to what one might find at a self-service carwash with warmed water in the system.
A steamer is entirely different than a high-temperature pressure washer. The two are frequently confused even though they have little in common. Steamers are expensive, specialized machines and, unlike pressure washers, have few uses other than ice removal. Nothing is faster or safer to use than a true steamer when getting rid of unwanted ice.
If the gun on the machine being used has a trigger, it is NOT A STEAMER. It is a high-temperature pressure washer.

- Pressure washers can easily damage cold, brittle roofing materials.

The ice dam steaming price range can vary greatly from one location to the next and from one company to the next. We have seen prices for a 2 man crew range from $350.00 to $850.00 per hour with a two-hour minimum. Most companies charge from the time they arrive to the time they pack up. Average jobs take 2 to 6 hours.
